New Overtime Rules: A Legal Perspective – Webinar!
February 12, 2020 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
2020 is ushering in new rules on the federal and state levels covering employees who are exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay. Generally, employees must be paid minimum wage and receive overtime pay, but certain “white collar” employees (bona fide executive, administrative, professional, or outside sales employees) are exempt from those rules if they meet a minimum salary level and certain job duties tests. Both the federal and state labor agencies have made changes to the exempt employee rules that will be effective in 2020. Nonprofit and microenterprise employers may be impacted by the new rules.
Learning Outcomes
Attendees will be able to describe the difference between “exempt” and “non-exempt” employees, explain the threshold levels and job duties test, and accurately classify employees.
You will learn:
- The definition of exempt and non-exempt employees;
- How to correctly classify your employees;
- The overtime rules that apply to your employees;
- And more!
Who Should Attend
This training is intended for boards, management, and staff members of nonprofits with employees.
Speaker: Linda Fang, Banyan Counsel
Linda strives to give business owners peace of mind. Having spent the first eight years of her legal career as an employment litigator in California, she understands how costly and time-consuming legal disputes can be for businesses. Linda has represented companies, business owners, employees, and labor unions in agency audits and investigations, administrative proceedings, arbitrations, and individual and class action cases in state, federal, and appellate courts, and she uses her experience to help business owners minimize their legal risk and stay out of trouble. Linda helps entrepreneurs form business entities, design employment policies and handbooks, hire their first employees, draft and negotiate business contracts, and protect their confidential and proprietary information. She also helps seasoned business owners expand their operations, grow their workforce, clean up their contracts and policies to ensure compliance with ever-changing employment laws, obtain financing, and navigate changes in ownership. When disputes arise, Linda helps business owners enforce their rights, respond to city, state, and federal agency audits and investigations, negotiate owner disputes, and defend against unwanted litigation.
