Advocacy & Lobbying – What Your Nonprofit Needs to Know

April 17, 2019 | 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Presenters: Elaine Rose, Sheila Anderson, Campion Advocacy Fund and Stand for Your Mission, and David Lawson, Davis Wright Tremaine

This seminar will examine the rules around advocacy and lobbying by nonprofit tax- exempt organizations in Washington State. There are many misconceptions about whether and to what extent nonprofits can engage in lobbying and advocacy. Nonprofits can do some advocacy and lobbying, but there are limitations and specific rules regarding the type and amount of advocacy and lobbying that nonprofit tax-exempt organizations can do. We will explore the Washington State and City of Seattle law registration requirements and the Federal tax law restrictions on tax-exempt organizations that do advocacy and lobbying.

Light snacks and coffee, tea and water will be served. Please bring your own lunch.

Thank you to the Campion Foundation for sponsoring this training.
